This year at the Dachis Group Social Business Summit 2011 there was truly a rock star line up; and I look forward to sharing a few of the many great take-aways from our day at the W. I discovered one of our speakers a few weeks ago via Jeff Dachis’ twitter feed; his name is Dave Gray.

Dave wrote a great blog post, comparing companies to cities, that incited quite a bit of discussion, expanding my view of Social Business to include discussions on corporate structure and culture. According to Dave, “Companies are made out of people, like cities, they are complex.” These are discussions that I have had with my Father, Brian Trimble since I was very young; arguably catalyzing our journey into entrepreneurship.

The Social Business Summit is truly a composite, as Jeff Dachis himself pointed out; and it is Dave Gray who motivated my initial discovery of and registration for the SBS 2011. I have spent the last year or two focusing on the tools of social media and how they allow us to leverage our social interactions, both in the personal and business realms. What I had yet to do was combine those macro-level culture/business philosophy discussions with the connections I had made across my social graph.

Dave connected them for me in one blog post, and put a bow on it at the SBS 2011. At the end of the day, a focus on the people that make up an organization is the only viable way to derive a structure/culture that will thrive.

Closing remarks from Dave’s discussion at SBS 2011: “Companies grow/reorg/constantly rebuilding the machine. At what point do we wake up and say: this isn’t an F’ng machine.”

Thanks for humanizing business for us just a little bit more today Mr. Gray.
